On a lake in the community of Paraná do Jussará in Coari (Manaus), one video shows thousands the fish emerged dead due to recent droughtis responsible for aggressively reducing the volume of water in the area. With the decrease in volume, caused low oxygenation and therefore the fish looked dead.
In the video, it is possible to see animals swimming in the lake and forming a kind of “fish carpet”. in an interview with G1, Jacksoney Lima, a biotechnologist and technician in fisheries resources, says the incident was caused by low rainfall volume and extreme drought in the Amazon region.

The expert claims that thermal inversion also helps reduce oxygen in the water after the climate in the region begins to cool. “It’s a big lake, there are several smaller lakes in it. When there is an excessive decrease in the rivers, the water volume of the lake decreases, and the amount of oxygen decreases because there is a lot of fish in that area.” decreases as well,” adds Lime.
Coari is just one of the emergency municipalities in the Amazon region suffering from severe drought. The state currently counts eight municipalities in emergency, these are Amaturá, Benjamin Constant, Japurá, Tefé, Uarini, Maraã, Alvarães and Coari.
