Amazon keep investing drones, hoping they can revolutionize the delivery of its goods – speeding up operations and reducing costs. The e-commerce giant’s new drones are mentioned MK30 and are an evolution of the previous model (already tested in some US cities).

The new drones will fly for the first time at the end of this year. Again, Amazon will proceed with extreme caution and test the MK30s in a handful of US cities (ie Lockeford in California and College Station in Texas).

Amazon hopes to have drone deliveries operational in more cities by the end of 2024.

Amazon claims the new drone model is smaller, lighter and safer. The benefits of this new solution include significantly improved noise pollution and the ability to fly in light rain conditions. Deliveries by drone remain impractical in adverse weather conditions.

Amazon’s testing takes place under the supervision of Federal Aviation Administrationin turn, interested in collecting data and information to understand whether in the future it will be possible to give the green light to deliveries by drone throughout the national territory and for all companies that wish to apply for a permit.

Thanks to drones, Amazon’s delivery times could one day drop to less than a 30-minute wait from time of order.
