This Thursday (22), president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) announced the new minister elected to head the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. Luciana Santos, the current deputy governor of Pernambuco and national head of the PCdoB, will be responsible for the new management of the folder.
PCdoB was one of the parties involved in supporting President Lula during the 2022 Elections, including the nomination, and was already anticipated. “After four years of denial, science will once again be a priority in this country,” Luciana said in a message posted on Twitter.
It’s a great honor to take on the ST&I Ministry! It’s a job I’m going to do with a lot of commitment and a lot of temperament. After four years of denial, Science will once again be a priority in this country. ???

Who is Luciana Santos?
The new 57-year-old minister has a degree in electrical engineering, federal and state deputy, was mayor of Olinda for two terms, and is now the deputy governor of Pernambuco – the state’s first female deputy governor. Born in Recife, Luciana was also the secretary of state for Science and Technology.
In addition to his work in politics, the engineer was also known for his political background in the student movement. Luciana joined the PCdoB in the mid-1980s, but received her first MP post only in 1996.
