The most colorful images of Jupiter’s moon Io are now available. Juno, NASA probe, was responsible for photographing the moon of the Jupiter planet during one of its steps close to its surface – 51,500 kilometers – March 1, 2023. Now the images are finally on the Internet for everyone to enjoy.

What can you see in NASA photos? First of all, the volcanoes Lei-Kung Fluktus, Amaterasu Patera, Dazhdbog Patera, Surt and Vivaswant Patera. In terms of the scale of objects on Io’s surface, the researchers say the smallest observable feature in the image would be up to 35 kilometers wide.

On the other hand, the dark spots swarming on the surface of a celestial body are the result of numerous volcanic eruptions to which the satellite has been subjected. Girru Oriental is one of those that can be observed for the first time.. During NASA’s New Horizons mission in 2007, Girru Oriental experienced a major eruption, but the lava flow appeared after the probe passed over the celestial body.

Now the small flow field visible in the images is up to 3,200 square kilometers in size. This areae would have activated after the October 2021 eruption.. The information was collected by the JIRAM tool −Jovian infrared auroral mapperfrom NASA’s Juno spacecraft.

NASA’s JunoCam imagery shows the shadows of mountains near the boundary between Io’s day and night sides. Actually a dark spot that can be seen in the right center of the image can be a mountain up to 5500 meters high.

The photo resolution has been tested between 43 kilometers and 34 kilometers per pixel.

Its diameter is 3643.2 km, which is only 168 km more than that of the Earth’s satellite.
