In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be the protagonist Namurand this is one of the most interesting aspects of the feature film that will lead to some sort of alternation with Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa (we saw a new Black Panther appear in the finale of the latest trailer), and to get an appearance make in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the marine antihero of the House of Ideas. But there was a time when Namor had to star in a solo movie that was never made.

The character of Namor was created in 1939 by Bill Everett in Marvel Comics #1, so we are talking about one of the first characters of the House of Ideas, and also on a cinematic level, Namor had to be a forerunner. In 1997, Marvel along with Avi Arad and Philip Kaufman had the idea to develop the feature film Namor: Sub-Mariner. In 2001, the rights of the character passed to Universal Pictures, and for a decade they tried to continue a special project, in the wake of the Hulk feature films, released in 2003 and 2008 and also made by Universal. The Hulk’s screen permission issues also shared Namor, given that on the green superhero, Universal continues to keep the distribution fees and the ability to develop solo films. Same situation that concerns Sub-Mariner. For this reason, Namor was not introduced in a lone movie, but in a feature film like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

As early as 2014, Kevin Feige had said about the possibility of a solo film for Namor:

There are possibilities, but it is complicated. There are problems that make it not so easy. Contracts involving several parties have already been signed.

Also in 2018, the Marvel Studios boss had confirmed that the issue of Namor’s rights was rather complex to resolve. It wasn’t until the end of that year that an agreement was reached that allowed Namor to be brought to the big screen and make his debut in Black Panther Wakanda Forever. The possibilities to use the character are therefore limited to special circumstances, similar to the Hulk’s situation, and in some ways to Spider-Man’s (for which Sony and Marvel Studios reached an exhausting and tight agreement about two years ago.) .

Actor Huerta Tenoch presenting his character stated:

Latin Americans have always been used as villains in Hollywood productions, but now we become the heroes, or the anti-heroes. We will do something that Hollywood will be proud of.

Namor can be seen in the final trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, including in a certain guise, as he shows in the film that he can fly.

In Marvel Studios, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba) fight to protect their land of advancing world powers after the death of King T’Challa. As the Wakandans try to make sense of the next chapter of their story, the heroes must come together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path to the kingdom of the Wakanda. The film stars Tenoch Huerta in the role of Namor, king of a hidden undersea nation, and is also played by Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena and Alex Livinalli.

The film will be released in Italy on November 9.
