WhatsApp settings link causes the app to crash on devices with Android OS. The problem was discovered by an ethical hacker known as Brute Bee, who shared the bug on Twitter.

According to him, after typing or trying to send the “https://wa.me/settings” link (without quotes) the app restarts. HE Technology World Tested on a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with Android 13 (One UI 5.1) and the bug is indeed present.

The hacker claims that Xiaomi and Samsung phones running Android 12 are also affected. WhatsApp Business does not pass unscathed. Version 2.23.10.77 is experiencing the same thing, causing the software to crash and restart.

Solution for error

Brute Bee not only discovered the problem, but also demonstrated a workaround. If you get the settings link, the user needs to access WhatsApp Web. To stop the app from crashing and restart, you have to delete the message or even the entire conversation..

When the hacker reported the problem to Meta, he received a response that another researcher had already made the warning. The company said it would fix the bug and close the call, but asked users to report it again if it happened again.
