The data of the buyers of the retailer Auchan and the hypermarket Tvoi Dom were leaked to the network. This was reported by the Telegram channel “Information Leaks”, the information was confirmed in Auchan.
7,840,297 lines of Auchan buyer data with names, phone numbers, and email addresses entered open access. Another 713,365 lines were leaked with the names, emails, genders and dates of birth of Your Home customers. The information security service of Auchan Retail Russia confirmed the fact of the leak.
“At the moment, we are conducting an internal investigation to determine the attack vector and the source of the leak. We regret what happened and apologize to our customers,” the chain’s press service told Izvestia.
They added that they are working to strengthen the security of the company’s information systems and protect customer data.
Organizations now face smaller fines for breaches by the standards of their capitalization. Previously, the court fined VK in the amount of 60 thousand rubles for leaking user data from Mail.ru. Prior to this, the Skyeng online school was fined the same amount.
The Russian authorities intend to significantly toughen the punishment for companies for leaking customer data. The Ministry of Digital Development proposed last year the introduction of billing penalties of 1% of annual revenue and 3% if the company fails to report the incident to the RKN.
The department later finalized the bill. The penalty will be calculated on the company’s revenue for the year prior to the leak detection incident.
