In the first half of 2023, the number of DDoS attacks against Russian companies increased by 23% compared to last year. This information is provided by StormWall, a company specializing in information security.

The largest increase in attacks was recorded in the public sector, where the number of incidents increased by 104%. A significant increase in attacks was observed in the energy (63%) and oil (48%) sectors, as well as the financial sector (42%). Other industries, such as entertainment (38%), cultural institutions (26%), transportation companies (18%), and retail (14%) were also victims of an increasing number of attacks.

It turned out that the financial sector, which accounts for 28% of the total number of incidents, is the sector most susceptible to attacks. Telecommunications companies take the second place with 21 percent, while the public sector is in the top three with 16 percent.

The months when attacks were most active were January, March and May; attack percentage was 14%, 18% and 23% respectively. Attackers used a variety of methods, including multi-vector DDoS attacks and DDoS attacks, as cover for more sophisticated targeted attacks.
