Scientists from Moscow State University, in collaboration with experts from Thailand and Vietnam, learned that the cilia snake is a new species. It was given the name Trimeresurus ciliaris, meaning “ciliated keffiyeh”.
Scientists also managed to find four representatives of the new species studied. The snake found is one of the smallest species of the Kufiy genus, with a maximum length of 40 cm. It is emerald green in color and has dark red transverse stripes. The snake has small, protruding scales that resemble eyelashes.
