At the end of 2018, Google CEO Sundar Pichai met with Apple CEO Tim Cook.

At that meeting, Cook told Pichai that he wanted Apple and Google to be “strong competitors, deep down where our services end and yours begin.” In response, Pichai suggested pre-saving the Google app on every iOS device.

Apple abandoned this idea. The company never secures external applications on iPhones. It could also pose major challenges for these companies as regulators in the US and Europe take into account the new terms in the contract.

The proposal came at Pichai and Cook’s annual meeting to discuss the search agreement between Apple and Google.
