Banks warned of restrictions on Unionpay card payments abroad

Russian banks, which were subject to new US sanctions, warned their clients about restrictions on the operation of Unionpay payment system cards abroad.

Home Credit Bank RB.RU support reported that payment via Unionpay “is no longer made” or can be made “at any other time.” They added that the inability to make payments with Unionpay cards will affect all banks subject to sanctions.

Russian Standard asked customers to withdraw cash because Unionpay cards will stop working on November 3. The fee for withdrawing cash abroad will be refunded on November 2 and 3, the bank informed TASS.

Pochta Bank informed RB.RU that the restrictions will apply to payments with Unionpay cards.

“Customers who are currently abroad are recommended to withdraw cash from the card,” the bank’s press service reported.

Absolut Bank told TASS that the sanctions will not affect work because the bank was prepared to receive them.
