Vitamin D deficiency can lead to rickets in children and osteoporosis in adults. Makhmudova noted groups of people at increased risk of deficiencies: the elderly, those who work from home, the disabled, breast-fed babies and those who wear covered clothing.

For these groups, the expert recommends taking vitamin D all year round and getting tested regularly to monitor its levels in the body.

The doctor also warned about the possible negative consequences of excess vitamin: hypercalcemia, weakening of bones, kidney and heart problems. To avoid negative consequences, recommended dosages must be strictly observed.
