The new satellites of the Starlink space constellation began sending SMS messages by connecting directly to phones. This makes mobile communications accessible even in places where base stations or the network are not available. And the first users have already received SMS. Some of them are: “New phone, who is it?”, “I’ve never seen a connection like this” and “Wow”.

Currently, SpaceX has launched more than 5,250 satellites into orbit. The company explained that previously direct communication between spacecraft and terrestrial phones was limited due to the large distance between devices, the rapid movement of satellites in orbit and the weak antennas of mobile phones.

However, with the advent of silicon phased arrays and modern communication algorithms, the problem became solvable.
