This is a “Capture Button” that responds to touch and pressure, allowing users to control zoom and focus.
This button will be mechanical rather than capacitive and will respond to pressure and touch. Users will be able to zoom in and out by sliding the button left and right, focus with a light press, and activate recording with a harder press.
Apple plans to place the hold button on the right side of the iPhone, below the power button, in an ideal location for finger access in the landscape orientation of the device.
This location currently houses the mmWave antenna in the US, but the antenna will be moved to the left side of the device with the addition of an additional button.
According to The Information, Apple believes the new button will be a major reason to buy the iPhone 16 series and is being introduced to further promote the iPhone as a camera alternative for landscape video shooting.
