“Russian hackers” are using OpenAI neural networks to carry out cyberattacks, The New York Times has discovered. Hackers from China, North Korea and Iran have also been found to use artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, which they mainly use to solve routine tasks.
Hacker groups from several countries are using artificial intelligence technologies to carry out cyberattacks. This was reported by The New York Times with reference to a study by OpenAI and Microsoft.
The companies’ report includes groups from China, North Korea, Iran and Russia. Hackers in these countries used neural networks to solve routine tasks: composing emails, translating documents, and debugging computer codes.
In one case, a “Russian hacker group” was discovered using OpenAI technologies to conduct research in the field of satellite communication protocols and radar imaging technology, the newspaper writes.
Bob Rothsted, head of cybersecurity threat analysis at OpenAI, noted that hackers register accounts on AI services like normal users.
