Pictured is the south pole of Io, one of the most volcanically active moons in the solar system.

Juno completed a flyby of Io in its 60th flyby of the celestial body. In the resulting image, you can see the 200 kilometer long lava lake “Loki Patera”.

Volcanic activity on Io is so high that the satellite holds the record among all other celestial bodies in our solar system.

There are hundreds of active volcanoes on its surface, according to mission director Scott Bolton.

The image shows lava as well as characteristic light reflections that scientists interpret as the presence of obsidian, a volcanic glass formed after lava cools rapidly.
