A team of scientists from the spine pain research group at Macquarie University (Australia) states that regular walking helps people get rid of back pain.
701 adults participated in the new study. All of these individuals had recently recovered from back pain that lasted at least 24 hours. Participants followed one of three approaches: an individual walking program, six sessions with a physical therapist, or no treatment. After that, experts observed the participants for one to three years.
Compared to the control group (no treatment), walkers had less activity-limiting back pain. According to the researchers, this not only reduced the need to seek medical attention, but also halved the time away from work due to illness.
It is also important that for participants who walked, the time until the next pain attack almost doubled: from 112 days to an average of 208 days.
