Avtozavod St. Petersburg was owned by the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan. In 2022, the company became part of FSUE NAMI, controlled by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. In 2023, AvtoVAZ bought the plant and then returned it to the state.

In January 2024, the company began producing cars under the Xcite brand. So far, the range includes only the X-Cross 7 SUV. Autonews wrote that the car is assembled at a factory with an “unnamed technology partner” and the model itself is completely similar to the Chinese crossover Chery Tiggo 7 Pro.
