The high-speed railway is scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2028, Zverev said. The 679-kilometre-long highway will pass through two federal cities and four regions. The journey time will be 2 hours and 15 minutes, almost twice as long as on the Sapsan. The Ministry of Transport expects passenger traffic of 23 million people a year.
In August 2023, Deputy Minister of Transport Valentin Ivanov spoke about the planned completion date of the high-speed railway in 2028. Then, the cost of implementing the project was estimated at 1.7 trillion rubles.
The high-speed railway between Moscow and St. Petersburg will be the first such highway in Russia; in the future, it is planned to build a high-speed route between Moscow and Yekaterinburg, Adler, Ryazan and Minsk. The highway projects will be presented at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in 2024, RIA Novosti reports.
