In Russia, in 2025, imported wines for less than 1,000 rubles may no longer be available for sale. One of the reasons is the depreciation of the ruble, Alexander Lipilin, CEO of the Fort wine trading company, told RIA Novosti.

“Changes in regulation, as well as rising exchange rates, have an impact on all imports. Consequently, the number of imported wines worth less than 1,000 rubles on the shelves is decreasing and perhaps in 2025 there will be no more wines of this type,” the top manager warned.
According to him, Russian wines in the category up to 700 rubles are usually better than imported ones, but their prices may soon rise. Lipilin explained this by the fact that in Russia there is a shortage of such products and domestic winemakers cannot satisfy the growing demand.
The expert noted that in 2024, the Russian wine market “developed trends that began in 2023,” including “tightening conditions for imports from friendly and hostile countries.”
In the summer of 2023, the government sharply increased import duties on wines from “hostile” countries, from 12.5% to 20% (but not less than $1.5 per liter). This rate was later extended until 2024.
In August, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree on a new increase in duties. The rate applied to strong alcohol has increased to 20% (but less than 3 euros per liter of 100% alcohol), the rate applied to wine from “hostile” countries has increased to 25% (but not less than 2 dollars per liter ).
