According to the documentation, which was in the hands of Bloomberg journalists, Apple plans to introduce a new docking station for the iPad starting in 2023.
Not only will it charge the device, but it will also allow the tablet to implement functionality similar to the capabilities of the Amazon Echo Show smart display.
In this case, it will be possible to control the iPad, as well as the “smart” speakers, simply by voice. According to the developers, it will also be convenient for owners of smart home systems, including an updated version of the HomePod column.
Apple is not the first to try to implement the idea of turning a tablet into a smart speaker. Amazon has created a wireless charging pad that turns the Fire HD 10 Plus tablet into a smart display.
Google also announced a charging dock for the Pixel tablet, which will allow the tablet to function as a smart speaker, smart display, and smart home control device.
