Acer has established itself as a manufacturer of reliable and comfortable urban electric scooters. We have already tested and written about the Acer ES Series 1 touring, lightweight scooter and the very first in the Acer ES Series 3 line.
However, the company is not going to stop and is invited to test the new model Acer ES Series 5.
I rode this scooter around Moscow and now shared my impressions. In short:
● powerful motor
● comfortable for long hikes
● convenient to fold and transport
In large quantities with a range of up to 65 km on a single charge, this scooter can bring you attention. And yes, in autumn you can move around the city on a scooter, the main thing is comfortable so that there is no rain.
Appearance and features
Acer ES Series 5 is similar in appearance to other models of city scooters. A distinctive feature is the “goose” that connects to the steering stamina: here it is made in the form of a curved tube, rather than a rectangular block, which slightly feels the weight of the scooter.
The deck of the ES Series 5 is the widest I have ever seen on a city scooter. With my 43 servings, both feet fit completely on it, the heel or toe does not hang down. Stand comfortably, you will not get tired even after a long trip.
The frame of the scooter is made of aluminum alloy, so that the weight is acceptable, about 18 kg. Includes a high rider weight of 120kg to operate this machine.
The steering rack is attached and fixed in the folded state with a hook and a ledge on the rear fender. The folding mechanism is simple but reliable: the latch at the base of the steering rack is fixed with a metal “tongue”, and in order to wring it out, it is sufficiently combined with a combination of elements.
When folded, the scooter can be taken behind the wheel and carried, as well as folded into the trunk of almost any car. The whole process of folding and unfolding takes just a couple of seconds. In the assembled state, the steering rack does not play and does not creak, the design is reliable.
The steering wheel is one-piece, the handles do not unscrew and do not turn. On the right side there is a mechanical brake handle and a bicycle bell, on the left side there is a loop for fixing the steering wheel in the folded state of the ring and gas.
Yes, the gas here is almost like on a real motorcycle, no triggers and heels under a lot of supervision. To “start” the motor, you must first push off with your foot, and then smoothly turn the movable part of the right handle to grab it.
The handles are the on-board computer screen and the on / off button of the scooter. The display shows the current speed, one of the available modes, battery charge and headlight indicator.
Three possible options allow you to choose the optimal speed: the first allows you to accelerate to 6 km / h, the second – up to 15 km / h, and the third will spin the motor-wheel up to 25 km / h.
The brakes are manifested not only in a mechanical way, which, when written on the handle, blocks the rear wheel, but also manifests itself, which slows down the front. The scooter brakes quite smoothly, so there is a chance to fly over the handlebars in the event of an emergency stop is almost equal.
The ES Series 5 features a headlight and taillights that also double as a brake light when braking. The headlight does not shine too brightly, rather it signals to pedestrians in front that a rider is approaching.
However, there are front and rear lights, which means that, in accordance with the new rules, this scooter can be driven in the right lane on the road, where the speed limit does not exceed 60 km/h.
To mitigate the load on the hands and back, the scooter has a double front shock absorber, which works out well the bumps and potholes on the pavement. There are also plastic fenders front and rear, which have proven to be excellent: I rode the ES Series 5 right after the rain and there was no spray or dirt flying from under the wheels in a conspicuous place.
Specifications ES Series 5. One word – pulls
The scooter is equipped with a motor-wheel located in front of one. The motor power is 350 W, at the peak it can reach 470 W. With my weight of 89kg, the ES Series 5 rides up hills and ramps, which is a great indicator of power. In a straight line on a scooter, you can drive up to 65 km on a single charge, if the rider’s weight does not exceed 65-70 kg and the road is straight, without climbs.
In urban conditions, I managed to drive slightly more than 35 km without recharging. Moreover, the scooter pulled to the last, without losing power, which indicates a good controller and the detection of elements in the battery pack.
The Acer ES Series 5 is IPX4 water-resistant, which is another plus in using this particular scooter for one ride in any weather. The charging port is located on the deck, but is securely protected by a rubber plug. Checked – water is not measured.
The scooter is charged from zero to 100 percent in 5 hours. Standard time for almost any device.
In general, the Acer ES Series 5 is just fine, nothing is assembled and no backlash, the device is ready to go right out of the box. Unlike many other consumers of other brands, nothing needs to be modified and improved on this scooter, which is great.
Wheel roll is good, you can even use the Acer ES Series 5 as a simple, productive scooter, starting from it.
Of the minuses, I can not adjust the height of the steering rack and a weak headlight. But on the other hand, this scooter is convenient for a rider from 165 cm tall to ride, at night the city is full of lights, so a particularly strong headlight can only interfere with pedestrians and add negative karma to the scooter driver.
