Google announces plans to implement eSIM technology on all Android phones During Mobile World Congress 2023 (MWC) in Barcelona. This means users can more easily transfer their profile from one device to another and store their phone number data.

eSIM is a chip embedded in mobile devices that allows users to connect to mobile networks without the need for a physical SIM card. This means users no longer need to switch or worry about losing their SIM card from one phone to another.

The technology is available in the latest versions from Samsung and Xiaomi and has also been adopted by Apple since the arrival of the iPhone XR and iPhone XS in 2018, but is optional. Starting with iPhone 14, users in the United States will no longer be able to use the physical chips in their device.

technological partnerships

During the event, the company highlighted partnerships with phone companies and smartphone manufacturers to develop new technologies in Android devices. Google says Deutsche Telekom, Europe’s largest telecoms company, will be one of the first operators to adopt eSIM in its smartphones.

more updates

The company also plans to implement the RCS (Rich Communications Service) communication protocol on all its devices.. The tool uses the structure of telephone companies to transmit data in a manner similar to SMS. British phone company Vodafone is developing an app that will become standard on Android phones.

Big tech has emphasized its commitment to longer updates of the operating system (OS). Samsung is committed to four years of major Android updates plus five years of security patches, while Xiaomi is expected to have three OS updates and five years of security updates.
