LATAM uses cameras combined with artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor the efficiency of operations at the Guarulhos airport. The company is the first Brazilian airline to use the technology. The tool provides an overview of procedures on the ground and aims to reduce the average time aircraft are stopped.

The new monitoring system monitors all movements of the operation around the aircraft in real time to update the planned departure times, calculate the usage time of the gate and the connection time of the ground energy supply unit.

“With the data in hand, we have achieved greater operational efficiency and, as a result, a better experience for our customers with quality and safety,” explains Rafael Walker, Global Director of Customer Service at LATAM Airlines.

The tool also allows you to prevent damage from foreign objects, check the status of the embarkation/landing bridge, and also provide compliance reports to maintain safety measures around the entire aircraft perimeter on the ground.

innovation ecosystem

The technology was tested and developed over 12 months by LATAM Labs in partnership with Synaptic Aviation. The airline’s innovation center is testing solutions proposed by its employees and collaborators from universities and start-ups in real work environments.

LATAM Labs has implemented projects with document verification with artificial intelligence, application of neural networks, and the development of deep learning and autonomous artificial intelligence in customer experience.

Various areas of LATAM interact with the innovation ecosystem, including Airports, Customer Service, Customer Experience and Products, Cargo, Human Resources, Legal, Compliance, IT and Flight Standard.
