Oppo’s Zeku division was founded in 2019 and has around 200 patents in its Shanghai subsidiary. Like Apple, Oppo took the risk to create its own co-processors for smartphone components, but failed to successfully launch its own SoC, the most important chip in a device.
Recent Oppo smartphones like the Oppo Find N2 Flip and Find X6 Pro have used SoCs from MediaTek and Qualcomm respectively.
As the US imposes restrictions on the sale of such products to China, Chinese phone makers like Oppo must obtain licenses to use the chips from US companies.
