The race to create the fastest charging smartphone continues. After the announcement of Realme by 240W wired charging systemInfinix announced their system Universal fast charging 260W, which promises to charge a smartphone battery from zero to 25% in just one minute and up to 100% in seven minutes and 30 seconds.

Plus, it has a fancy new wireless charging system called the 110W Wireless All-Round FastCharge, and it charges the phone’s battery with enough power to reach 100% in just 16 minutes. For reference, OnePlus 100’s 11W wired fast charging takes the battery to 100% in about 25 minutes, and even Xiaomi’s 120W charger with the Xiaomi 13 Pro takes about 20 minutes to top out.

The small GaN charger that makes this possible is paired with a 13A cable, a special fast charging protocol, and various internal changes to ensure battery longevity. The battery is said to still provide 90% of its capacity after 1000 charge cycles. The wireless charger has a dual coil design so it can be used horizontally or vertically, and there is a fan at the base for cooling. Infinix says the system, which supposedly includes a battery, charger and cable, includes more than 20 temperature sensors and 140 safety mechanisms to keep it safe.

While it’s interesting to see how manufacturers push battery charging, there are a few additional points to note about the Infinix All-Round FastCharge system. Infinix took the time to top up the 4,400mAh battery, which is smaller than most current flagship phones, such as the OnePlus 000’s 11.5mAh battery. The 260W capacity is a great headline, but according to USB.org, the organization lives up to the standard. USB, the maximum power delivered by USB PD Revision 3.1 systems is 240W.

Digital Trends reached out to Infinix for clarification on how it squeezes more power out of its charger and cable and received the following comment from the company:

“Infinix continues to push the boundaries of fast charging technology. It provides extremely fast 260W high power charging using Infinix’s proprietary fast charging protocol, combined with innovations in the charger, charging cable and charging architecture. This breakthrough is a testament to Infinix’s strong technical foundation and innovative capabilities.”

It doesn’t clear things up much, but we’ll probably find out more when the tech is released. Infinix will launch All-Round FastCharge on the next Note series device, but hasn’t given a timeline. It released the Note 12 2023 in October 2022, so it might be a while before it shows up.
