Disney has updated its Disney+ subscription policy to include a clause that could cause Apple to lose millions. Mickey’s house will no longer support Disney+ subscriptions through the App Store.therefore, users will have to go directly to the service website.
According to McRumorsThe new Disney+ policy coincides with an increase in membership costs in the US. The Hollywood giant pulled it off structural changes to increase income and one of them is related to subscriptions through third parties. Disney wants to make as much money as possible, so constant leaks like iPhone subscriptions need to be fixed.
Disney mentions on its support website that The policy will only apply to new users and inactive memberships.. This means that if you don’t have an account and want to subscribe to a video streaming service from your iPhone or iPad, you have to do it from the Disney+ website. On the other hand, if you stopped paying and want to renew your membership, you will no longer be able to do so in the App Store.
“New and existing subscribers without an active subscription can no longer subscribe to or pay for Disney+ through Apple. However, you can view all plans and subscribe directly at DisneyPlus.com to continue watching Disney+ content on your compatible Apple devices.” These changes will not impact current subscribers billed through Apple,” Disney says.
Disney+ follows in Netflix’s footsteps and closes the door to the App Store
Changes to Disney+ subscriptions come months after Netflix will take a similar measure for users in the USA. The streaming giant has notified subscribers who paid through the App Store to update their payment method.
“Netflix billing through Apple is no longer available for most new members or repeat subscribers,” the company says on its support website. “In some countries, some members billed through Apple may need to add a new payment method to continue their membership.”
Video streaming services will no longer require App Store fees, so they will implement more mechanisms to block this measure. It’s highly likely that Disney+ will follow Netflix’s steps in the future and notify active subscribers that they will have to change their payment method.
New Disney+ Policy Does not apply to Android deviceswhich can subscribe on the Play Store or through the Amazon app. This also does not apply to those whose membership is managed by an operator (Movistar, Orange, Vodafone) or cable TV providers (Izzi, Megacable, Sky, etc.).
