The Central Bank of Russia advocated for the expansion of personal data that operators will have to transfer to financial institutions. The corresponding bill provides for the creation of a separate state system for this, Kommersant reported.

The Central Bank advocated the transfer of personal data of subscribers to the regulator

The Central Bank offers to upload personal data to the system. This will improve the identification of bank customers, but will increase the risk of data leakage and may lead to the imposition of additional services by financial institutions.

The regulator with banks, telecommunication operators and law enforcement agencies are still discussing the expansion of amendments to the federal law “On the fight against legalization (laundering) of proceeds from crime.”

This issue was discussed in early June. However, then the FSB and telecom operators opposed the implementation of the project. Experts say the innovation could increase the risk of data leakage and prompt banks to impose additional services.
