Apple is planning to use simplified OLED screens in the second generation of Apple Vision Pro to reduce their production costs.

The company recently received screens from Japan Display Inc (JDI), which had previously invested $100 million.

JDI’s displays are cheaper than the Sonys found in the Apple Vision Pro, but they use a glass substrate instead of silicon. As a result, the JDI screen has 1,500 lumens per inch, while the Sony screen has 3,391 lumens per inch, or twice as much.

Apple aims to cut the cost of the Apple Vision Pro with a much cheaper display

Apple is reportedly switching to less expensive OLED technology to try to reduce production costs for its upcoming Apple Vision Pro headset.
