Microsoft has added a new privacy feature to recent Windows 11 Insider builds. For devices such as webcams and microphones, Settings displays a list of recent programs that have accessed the device.

David Weston, Microsoft’s VP of Operating System Security and Corporate shared a screenshot feature on Twitter. The new addition is yet to be mentioned on the Windows 11 Insider blogs.

Lists can be found under Privacy & Security -> Device (like Microphone) -> Recent Activity. Programs that have recently accessed the device will display the last access date and time.

Since Windows 10, access to the microphone or webcam is indicated by the icon of the device in the taskbar. In Settings, access can be blocked per program/app. Combining this list of programs with this new list of recent access might be another option for Windows developers to simplify things a bit.
